Fantasy Songs
I am involved in a massive worldwide search of songs about fantasy. Okay, maybe it's not that intense, but I am looking. I guess there are less of them than I thought. These would be songs about dwarves, elves, nymphs, castles, dragons, talking animals, etc. Here are a few that I've found:

How about Schumann's "Waldgespräch" about the Lorelei; Mendelssohn's "Neue Liebe," which describes the Fairy Queen's court; or Hindemith's "La Belle Dame Sans Merci." If you don't mind an aria from an opera (and I guess you'd have to transpose it) there's the Queen Mab aria from Gounod's Romeo and Juliet. Or from another angle, "Where the Bee Sucks There Suck I" either in the Elizabethan setting by Robert Johnson, or one of the modern settings.(And of course there are all sorts of Child ballads. They're not really art songs, but some of them are very lovely.)
